More Work to Be Done
Started the day out with trimming all around, then it's time to disc up the ground for sweet corn. As I went to hook up the disc I pulled up to the wrong one. Started looking for the right disc and couldn't find it so I would have to say it's been stolen. I just can't believe what people will due these days. So I made due with what I had and the sweet corn patch is ready. Cut up some big logs for firewood and just enjoyed the rest of the day before we head back to the city. Till next time.

Work to Be Done
Awoke to go turkey hunting and see if any mushrooms are to be found. Turkey population is just horrendous. Never heard a gobble and no mushrooms. So to work we go, finished setting the pole in the machine shed, cut a couple trees down, planted two trees, trimmed another and had to remove the tree down by the pond as it didn't pull through the hot dry summer of '13. Rem was driving the truck and that's all he wanted to do the rest of the day. So we headed over to town for gas and he drove all the back roads until we got to the edge, than switched and repeated on the way back home. So he finally wants to get his permit. Went to Dads that night for a visit.

Off to the Farm We Go
Been a little rough this week, but headed to the farm hopefully will put some peace of mind to troubled times. Stopped in Hannibal to get supplies and loaded up on Burger King. Arrived at the farm around 7:30, found Grandma in the Garden cutting asparagus, a spring treasure. Rem headed straight to the pond to fish. With all the winter kill this year fishing may not be to good. We all convened around the dinner table to talk about the latest news. Rem was talking about his World History teacher would love to see Great Grandfather Albert's World War I helmet and bayonet. Informed him that he was not taking that to school, but there where a lot of old pictures. He dived right in and couldn't believe we had all of this information. So he picked out some of the pictures and information to bring home. He also was amazed to find out that Grandmothers brothers Phil was in WW II with the 4th Armored Div under Patton and fought at the Battle of the Bulge and Bob was a pilot well before WW II and the seven original astronauts were friends of his. Gordon Cooper was his next door neighbor and Scott Carpenter lived a couple houses down. After 20 yrs of service they might've had something to do with Bob getting on at NASA. My Grandparents and there siblings are the Greatest Generation as Tom Brokaw describes.

Take A Hike
Headed over to Cuivre River State Park for a short hike with my better half plus the dog. We decided to do the North Loop of Cuivre River Trail it's about a 4 Mile journey that will take you through hills and valleys of the Big Sugar Creek Wilderness Area. The spring was following but it's amazing how dry it already is for April which we have been accustomed to wet Springs for the last few years.

Time To Get Away
Finally, been on-call for work the last 11 days. Remington is with his Mom and Evan didn't want to go. So it's a solo trip. Drove to Montauk State Park for a little trout fishing on the Current River. Haven't been here for like 20 yrs., fished for 4 hrs and only saw one guy catch any fish. Stopped off at Short Bend Access on the way home and more of the same. Missed every bite I had today, but sometimes it's not about what you catch it's about just being outdoors. One thing is for sure the snakes were out today.
Guess someone thought the tree was going to loose it's bark.

Clean Up Continues
Shingles and more shingles. Clean up continues as it seems it's never ending. Fun times on the farm. I also thought it might be time to take the Ranger over to town an give it a bath before my mother strangles me. Didn't leave the farm until 5:30 as all I wanted to do is stay. What a beautiful weekend it was.

Barn Repair
Well it's time to fix the machine shed. Picked up Raymond and Aaron a couple Amish boys that have been good friends of the family for some time. Bryan showed up to help as well. Took us about 5 hrs. to complete the job. The door is 12' x 15' x 1 1/2", all we had to do is replace some backer boards and remount the track as it was ripped off the barn during some horrendous winds back in late Feb.
